Why are my parents so overprotective !?

My parents are so annoying. Let me just list the ridiculous things about my life as a sheltered soon to be 18 yr old:
- I have never been to a party with them knowing
- I dont talk about boys with my friends in front of my parents
- I was talking to this boy this year and my mom read my text messages to him and my dad. then she looked him up on myspace and whenever she sees him around town she always talks about him to me or makes annoying jokes about him. not in a cute way, like a kiniving way.
- I ve never had a boy over my house thats my friend with out them knowing.
- I am not really allowed to hang out with boys
- Today at my friends graduation party, her COUSIN was sitting with our group and my mom was trying to turn her head so she can watch us and be nosy
And i just found out that I HAVE to spend my 18th birthday in 2 days with them all day and have dinner with them out when i was making plans with my friends to spend some time at the beach or a theme park. I ve had enough of this. they are making me crazy. I am a really good kid who gets good grades without even being asked. I have a job. My parents aren't annoying with school work or anything. I cant wait for college so I can be free. I am tired of being sheltered. what should I do?

You are way too young to understand their point of view. When you have kids and reach their age, you will know what they mean. They mean your protection, your well being.
Well, for your current situation, I guess try to talk with them and level with them. I mean, that's all you can do. Being open with your parents will mean they can trust you more, and be open for dialogue.

You know what, you should be glad they care. So what? You will be out of the house soon and you will be on your own and then you will probably turn wild which is sad. Your parents love you and most don't care where there kids are. I would just take it and when the time comes you will be fine.
